The club initially held its weekly meeting at the Mandarin Hotel but later moved the venue to Metro Club in Makati.
The club had its first taste of crisis in the following Rotary Year with the inability of Pres-elect Jake Talosa to assume office. Out going President Czar Paraz was prevailed upon to continue as president of the club together with new set of officers and directors. As the start of Rotary 1987-88 under DG Tino Cacanindin, the club membership dwindled to 14.
In May 1988 Pres. Czar Paras and his family migrated to Australia hence VP-PE Kit Sanz was forced to take over. Kit Sanz assumed the presidency for RY 1988-89 and held on until October 1988 when his group decided to give up and transfer to Dist. 381 to become the core group of RC Makati Metro.
IPDG Tino Cacanindin and DG Ruf Luna were able to convince12Rotarians, led by IPP Pres L. San Juan from Mandaluyong West, to form the dead club to resurrect it.

Besides the traditional district and club activities, community projects, and fellowships, this year’s performance was highlighted by four milestones that advanced the club into a level of dynamism and bolder visions never experienced before. To wit:

• The feeding Program for malnourish pupils of P.Cruz Elementary school which was accredited in the “WCS” list of beneficiary projects.
• The formal organization and registration of the RCMU FOUNDATION, INC.

All District and Club activities/fellowship participated enthusiastically by the club members With the spirited support of the board of Directors and the members, all the plans and objectives taken up during the Governor’s visit were all accomplished. The enhancement/up-grading of our on-going community service projects resulted in events that highlighted this Rotary Year.
• The expanded “small Loan to Poor People” and Feeding programs at P. Cruz Elem. School developed a closer tie and mutual cooperation between RCMU and the school administration. This was capped by the construction of a Rotary Hall bldg., in the school premises and anticipated the governor’s “thrust of TCP/Adopt School Program”.
• Donation in kind and emergency financial accommodation for Mandaluyong Medical Center, moving towards a mutual relation with the charity hospital. The reciprocity was enthusiastic when they participated in the Club’s traditional “Operation Tule”. This also anticipated the “Adopt a Hospital Program”.
• A delegation attended the R.I. Convention in Taipei and had fellowship with our sister Club R.C. Fengshan Chung Shan members and Anns. The gesture was graciously returned when they attended in force the induction ceremonies in the following Rotary Year.
INNOVATIONS
• As a matter of policy, it was resolved that ten percent (10%) of the funds raised for any Rotary Year shall be allocated to the TRF ANNUAL GIVING for PHF to be dedicated to deserving member(s).
• To reward the spontaneous response and dedicated efforts of the members and to exhort them the RY theme, “BELIEVE IN WHAT YOU DO-DO WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN” a set of criteria was established that evolved into the club’s MOST OUTSTANDING ROTARIAN AWARD.
After all these, and all, it culminated with the following prestigious awards:

Highlights:
For this year, two new Rotarians (Sammy Daswani & Jun Nuque) were accepted. However, five members have to be drooped from the rolls, resulting in a net reduction of three members Nevertheless, the club achieved a 100% subscription to both “Philippine Rotary” and the “Rotarian”, 100% participation and support in all district activities, forum and seminars. On the community service front, the Rotaract Club of Mandaluyong Uptown was re-organized, the small Loans to Poor People was expanded to total loans portfolio of P104,750.00 & Jacqueline Avila became the first scholar of the club. For vocational service, the club undertook the pilot project of a Search for the Outstanding Teacher of P. Cruz and I. Lopez Elementary Schools. It was so successful that an expanded project to include all elementary schools was conceived. Not to be outdone, the club added six new Paul Harris Fellows with PP Albert Yu & PP Pres San Juan receiving the Crystal Dove Recognition Awards for achieving ten (10) PHF contributions under their names.

Highlights:
As conceived from its successful debut the previous year, then search for the outstanding teacher in the City of Mandaluyong was expanded to include all the elementary schools in the division and was appropriately re-names (TOST) for Thee Outstanding School Teachers. Similarly, the Feeding Program and Scholarship Program were expanded. Isaac Lopez Elementary School was added to the feeding schedule while two new scholars were added. Likewise, the club took an aggressive stance on the medical front via Operation Harelip and Operation Anti-Rabies. Moreover, the club continued with its traditional relief and gift-giving to Mt. Pinatubo evacuees and deserving RVC members.

• Held cataract thru “operation Cataract ‘97” on September 7, 1997 at the P. Cruz Elementary School in Mandaluyong city. Three patients with full blown cataract have been operated on since October 1997.
• Conducted “Oplan Tepok Lamok” thru a fogging operation at Barangay Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong City on September 28, 1997, in the observance of the “Pest Control WeeK.”
• Turned over appliances and kitchen utensils purchased through the “Matching Grant”, to the beneficiaries of the “Feeding Program” at P. Cruz and Isaac Lopez School on December 4, 1997. Inducted are refrigerators, gas stove, electric fans, aluminum water kettles, knife sets, bottle openers, kitchen tool set, spoon, forks, wate jags, rice bowls, cups, saucers and teaspoons.
• Distributed 280 bags of grocery items to the indigents members of our two adopted barangays, Barangka Drive and Hulo, thru Christmas Cheers, Gift-giving Program.
• Started the Multi-Purpose cooperative for our adopted barangays primarily to make them self-reliant in the future.
• Co-hosted Show Rotary Cares for the “New Generation Forum” on September 28, 1997 at Kaban ng Hiyas, Mandaluyong City.
• Donated P 3,000.00 to the 150 pupils of P. Cruz Elementary School for them to register at The Club Scout of the Philipines on September 16, 1997.
